miscellany monday

hello from sunny florida!  i hope you all had a fantastic weekend!  mine was filled with traveling, eating, photographing, and attending a baby shower! i have few random thoughts to share with you today. so, many thanks to carissa, i decided to link up (and i'm typing in all lowercase because why not?)
{1} can you believe that daylight savings is just around the corner (november 7th at 2:00 am to be exact). i always get a little sad when it starts getting dark around seven pm.  what’s even harder to handle is that it’s dark when i wake up in the morning.  is it sad that i’m already looking thinking about springing forward before falling back?

{2} so this weekend i flew to washington, dc for my cousin’s baby shower.  she is having her first baby later this month and i couldn’t be happier for her and her husband.  in my previous post, i posted a picture of a diaper cake that my sister and i made.  the cake came out better than i expected.  i spent most of the day telling my co-workers about my masterpiece.  check it out below.

{3} i try not to watch too many reality shows, but for some reason i do like to watch the real housewives of the bravo channel.  i am watching the housewives of atlanta right now, but unfortunately, i’m not loving this season yet.  i’m looking forward to watching the housewives of beverly hills…i have a feeling that those ladies are going to be fabulous.

my favorite shows include gossip girl, amazing race, law and order, csi, how i met your mother and project runway (i’ve always had a secret desire to design clothes).

that's all i have for now...until next time.

Baby Shower and a Diaper Cake

Hi ladies…I hope that you all enjoyed your weekend.  I enjoyed mine….I got back into town early this afternoon after a last minute trip to Washington, DC.   My sister and I decided to surprise my cousin and attend her very first baby shower.  My cousin couldn’t ask for a better day, the weather was perfect, the food was delicious, and she was surrounded by family and friends.  So, my title of the post is a little weird right?  I wanted to post a picture of the diaper cake that my sister and I made for my cousin (also a last minute decision).  This was our first cake that we made and I plan on making more of these in the future.  I don’t know why I hadn’t made a diaper cake before….it was relatively easy to create and it’s a practical gift.  My cousin loved it and had a blast at the shower.   I’ve included pictures of what my sister and I wore to the shower.  Some how we managed to both wear an Anthropologie top to the party.

Anthurium Blouse - $19.99…was $88.00
Nexus Top – (not sure how much she paid)…was $68.00
Thanks for reading and have a great day!

Fresh Picks to Follow: Scarves

I’m a little late in posting my Friday Fresh Picks, but I went out of town unexpectedly and had little access to my computer.  So, even though it’s late Sunday evening, we’ll just have to pretend it’s Friday for the sake of my post.  My Fresh Picks to Follow this week are scarves.  I think that a scarf is a wonderful way to accessorize an outfit or to keep you warm when there is a little chill in the air! And, although I live in Florida, I have a pretty large collection of lightweight scarves. You can dress up a plain t-shirt with a fun colorful scarf or create a new look with a plain scarf that adds a pop of color.  Here are my top 10 picks of beautiful scarves for fall season.  Let me know what scarves you plan to wear this year!

Get to Know: Tracy Reese

So for my first Get to Know posting I figured that I would feature the designer of my new favorite shirt.  I was able to order a Tracy Reese top, called the damson lace blouse, from an older Anthropologie catalog a couple of weeks ago (see picture here).  The designer’s name is Tracy Reese.  Tracy Reese received an accelerated degree in 1984 from Parsons School of Design in New York.  After graduating Parsons, the Detroit native worked under designer Marine Sitbon while working for the small contemporary firm, Arlequin.

In Spring 1998, Reese launched her first collection, “Tracy Reese,” to rave reviews.  The designers’ second line, plenty by Tracy Reese was introduced later that same year.  A bohemian, “ethnic-inspired collection that is of-the moment, yet never trendy.”  The collection is eclectic, modern and adventurous.  Her collections reveal timeless wearable looks that include bright colors, bold prints and sophisticated patterns.

Tracy Reese, plenty and her other brands are sold nationwide in top department stores and specialty boutiques (like Anthropologie) as well as retailers throughout Europe and Asia.   Hopefully, we’ll continue to see more of Tracy Reese’s collection at Anthropologie and I hope to acquire more pieces from this amazing designer!

Here are a few of my favorite Tracy Reese items currently at Anthropologie stores or online:
