Moody Style: Dot, Dot, Dot

I hope that you all had a wonderful weekend.   I’m in Miami right now where the weather is almost 90 degrees today.  So I feel pretty silly posting a picture of this polka dot number, but it’s still going to happen nonetheless.  This is another picture that I never had a chance to post from last week when we a couple random days of cold weather.  I grabbed this sweater during the J.Crew sample sale that I went to in December and shortly after I found these little polka dot shoes after Christmas from Banana Republic.  When my sister first showed me these shoes can you believe that I told her that I didn’t need them?  I know right.  I’m so glad that I snagged them.  Thanks so much C!  Do you have any purchases that you were on the fence about and now you’re glad that you bought it?  Let me know in the comments.

Moody Style: Spotted

I’m so glad that the weather here in Florida has gotten a little bit cooler because I finally get to layer up for a few days.  For today’s look, I copied some of my favorite blogger’s look by adding a chambray shirt underneath my favorite sweater.  I was lucky to grab this little polka dot sweater from Old Navy a couple months ago, but the store is completely sold out right now. I’m just bummed that I didn’t grab this in any other color. Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve always loved polka dots.  Not only are polka dots fun, feminine and whimsical, but there is also something sort of 50’s glam about them.  You have to agree that polka dots can hardly be called a trend since every year they get reinvented with a funky and playful twist.  

Did you know that the polka dots trend has been influenced by lady bugs, which in increasingly popular in both the spring and summer?  I’ve also noticed that some of the major designers are using polka dots for their upcoming Spring/Summer 2011 collections.   

Style Tip: Polka dots can be tricky to wear, so be cognizant of your proportions and to the size of the dots.  Smaller dots seem to be the ultimate solution if you wish to visually polish your figure and get rid of the visible beauty flaws. However, larger spots create a bulky and more prominent effect.  Therefore, if you are not totally pleased with your body shape, then skip the large dots.
