Fresh Picks to Follow: A Splash of Red

Happy Saturday everyone! I’m sorry that I’m a little late in posting my Fresh Picks to Follow this week.  I just wasn’t feeling good yesterday.  Anyways, here is my post.

One of my favorite colors is red and I can’t get enough of it.  I love it in all different shades like crimson, scarlet, cherry and candy apple red.  I was inspired to write about my favorite color when I finally got around to reading my Marie Claire magazine.  My inspiration was a stunning picture of Olivia Wilde on the August cover.  Ms. Wilde is wearing a custom Calvin Klein Collection fire silk halter dress.  The whole dress isn’t featured, but I have a feeling that the dress is amazing.

The color of love is seen everywhere these days especially during the summer and pre-fall collections of some of the world’s most talented designers like Michael Kors, Jason Wu and Carolina Herrera.  The red trend goes with every skin tone and it’s perfect for almost every occasion. I love wearing red as an accent to a neutral outfit.  I usually add a red shoe to my little black dress or add a bright red shirt to a pair of jeans.  Check out my top 10 splashes of red for this week’s Fresh Picks to Follow.  Do you have a favorite red item in your closet?  If not, go on and add some red to your wardrobe.  You won’t regret it.

Race Recap: 3 Races in 24 Hours

Hiya ladies!  I hope that you all are having a great week so far.  I didn’t have a chance to post my recap about my races from this past weekend.   On Friday and Saturday, I ran in the Tour de Pain which consisted of 3 races in 24 hours.  This was a very unique event. The series starts with a 4 mile beach run on Friday evening, continues with a 5K road race Saturday morning and finishes with a 1 Mile Sizzler on Saturday evening!  This race was probably the craziest race I ever entered in.  I thought it would be fun and I really wanted to challenge myself a little bit more.

In the extreme heat, over 1,000 people started the first race on Friday night running 4 miles on the beach.  I honestly don’t remember how hot it was that day, but it was hot and humid.  It started to cool down once the race started at 7:00pm, but the humidity really zapped the life out of me.  There were 1,009 total race finishers and 519 female finishers.   I came in 27th in my age group and I was the 205th female finisher overall.  My official chip time was 40:59.  I was pretty happy with my stats considering how hot it was during the race.  I didn’t run as fast I wanted to run, but it was the first race.  And I had time to make up the difference with the other races.  This race was pretty tough.  It took me a couple of days to recover since I was so sore.  Something happened to my body after the beach run.  I just hurt all over.

Very humid - even at 6:45am
The next race started at 7:00am on Saturday morning.  This race was a 5k through a quiet neighborhood.  This race was particularly special to me because my mother ran her first race with me.  I didn’t think that she was going to run the whole thing, but she did it. I’m so proud of her…Go Mom!  The 5k was pretty easy because of the flat route.  In this race there were 1,023 total race finishers and 527 female finishers.   I came in 26th in my age group and I was the 183rd female finisher overall.  My official chip time was 28:59.  I was a little disappointed in my stats here because I ran this course in a previous race and I had a better chip time.

The final race was on Saturday evening at 4:30pm and the title of this race was the 1 mile sizzler.  And boy was it a sizzler.  It was so hot outside that the weather really felt like it you were in a sauna.  I went to the race location with sunscreen on my body and my sweat started taking it off before I even started running.   My mom was still pretty amped up from the race in the morning so, she decided to participate in the 1 mile race.  She’s such a trooper. She motivated to run in more races with me in the near future.  Anyways, I ran my hardest during this race because I figured it would be quick and easy.  There were 956 total race finishers and 480 female finishers.   I came in 30th in my age group and I was the 197th female finisher overall.  My official chip time in this race was 8:12.6.

Overall, I would run in this race again.  It was a fun challenge and I would like to improve my stats next year.

OOTD: Expanding Horizons and a Giveaway

I hope that you all had a great weekend.  My weekend was pretty good – starting with a very busy Saturday and ending with a relaxing Sunday.   Somehow, I managed to fit in shopping with my mom and visiting one of my really good friends.  I wanted a casual look for Saturday, so I pulled out my Anthro’s Expanding Horizons Tank.  I love this top so much that I’m regretting not getting it in other colors.

I wanted to let you all know about another giveaway.  Elizabeth from Behind The Dressing Room Door is hosting an Anthropologie giveaway in honor of her one year blogiversary.   Ms. Elizabeth is very generous because she is giving away a $25.00 gift card to Anthropologie.  Please check out her blog (here) for all of the details on how to enter.  This giveaway ends on Friday, August 12th.

OOTD: The Gingham Experience

What do you think of when you think about the gingham pattern? A picnic table, towels, school uniforms or baby clothes? I usually think about summer and backyard barbeques.  I was inspired to add gingham to my wardrobe after seeing Lisa, from Respect the Shoes, showcase several shirts on her blog.  I bought my first gingham shirt a couple weeks ago from Old Navy and I wore it last Friday.  I love this shirt so much that I bought two of them - one in yellow and the other in blue.   This top is super lightweight and a little see through.  If you decide to buy this specific shirt, you may want to wear a tank top underneath it.   The only thing about the shirt that I would change is the fit through the body.  As I mentioned yesterday (here), I wish the shirt was a little more form fitting.  The cut is a little boxy for my taste but it will do for now.  What do you think of gingham? Love it or hate it? Do you have any gingham shirts?  Let me know!

Fresh Picks to Follow: Gingham Check

Hi everyone…I hope that you all are having wonderful weekend so far.  Today was really busy filled with races, shopping and visiting friends.  So, I’m really looking forward to a relaxing day tomorrow at home.  I’ve been inspired to go out and purchase a gingham shirt when I saw Lisa from Respect the Shoes wear her various colored gingham shirts (here), (here), (here) and (here).  I also love the gingham shirts from Anthropologie, but I couldn’t justify paying full price for them.  I ended up finding a great alternative of the Anthro shirt over at Old Navy for a low price of 19.94 on promotion.   The Old Navy version isn’t as fitted as I would like, but it will do.  I wore my gingham shirt on Friday and I love it.  I plan to post my OOTD tomorrow, so check out my blog real soon.
