miscellany monday

happy monday everyone! i think that i’m finally getting back on track.   i just have to take some time to take a few ootd’s for the week and i’ll be all set for the week.  i’ve added my random ramblings to carissa’s miscellany monday party!  check out carissa’s blog here and join in on the fun.

{one} hurricane sandy. my thoughts and prayers go out to the people affected by hurricane sandy.  a disaster like this really puts everything into perspective. i recently made a donation to the red cross because i wanted to help out in some way.  if you are interested in contributing to the relief efforts, then you can donate to the red cross online (here) or you can donate to the salvation army online (here).

{two} running. in september, i mentioned that i was contemplating running in the lady speed stick women’s half marathon on november 18, 2012.  unfortunately, i didn’t’ sign up for it this year because of the location and my current job responsibilities.  hopefully, next year i’ll be able to participate in the race.  instead, i’ve decided to run in a local half marathon on thanksgiving day.  i’m looking forward to the race and i’m happy that i will be running pretty close to home.  another race that i’m looking into is the nike women’s half marathon in washington, dc on april  28, 2013.  the race course looks pretty amazing and you get a tiffany's necklace at the end of the race.

{three} san francisco. i had a blast in san francisco and i plan to write more about it very soon.

{four} vote for somebody. although i’ve already voted, i wanted to still remind everyone to get out and vote tomorrow.  hopefully, by now most of you have a pretty good idea of which presidential candidate that your going to vote for in tomorrow’s election.  however, if you are still unsure, don’t let your lack of decisiveness keep you from going out to the polls.  everyone at the very least should go out to the polls and vote for somebody.  and i’m not the only one that thinks this way.  check out this video from a group of children from harlem's democracy prep school who is reminding everyone to vote this year.

miscellany monday

happy monday everyone! i haven’t done one of these posts in a long time, so i thought that i should do one today.  i’ve added my random ramblings to carissa’s miscellany monday party!  check out carissa’s blog here and join in on the fun.

{one} my blogiversary.  i’ve been so caught up with the rest of my life that i nearly forgot all about my two year blogiversary which was on september 13th.  i started this blog in 2010 and never imagined that i would actually keep it up for this long.  thanks so much to all of you for your support over the past two years. i’m honored that you all take the time to check out my humble little blog.  it truly means the world to me.  i would love to talk about this a little bit more, but I want to dedicate a full post towards my blogiversary.  so, stay tuned. i might have a surprise for you all to celebrate my two years of blogging!!!

{two} running. you may or may not have noticed that i haven’t been posting that many race re-caps lately.  i haven’t been running as aggressively as i did last year, but that’s all about to change.  i truly enjoy running in cooler weather and the fall race season has finally gone into full swing.  this saturday i’m running in a 5k with one of my besties from north carolina.  she’s getting married next year and is coming down for the race, to visit family and to find bridesmaids dresses.  it should be a good weekend.  i’m also contemplating running  in the lady speed stick women’s half marathon in st. petersburg on november 18, 2012.  it looks like it will be a great race.  i have about 60 days until race day, so i have to make a decision quick if i’m going to do it.  have any of you ever ran in a lady speed stick race?  if so, tell me all about it in the comments.

quick race recap – the last race that i ran in was a 5k that raised awareness for lung health.  the race was relatively small – there were 262 total race finishers and 125 female finishers.   i came in 2nd in my age group and I was the 16th female finisher overall.  my official chip time was 28:51.  it’s not my best time and not particularly fast, but overall i’m pretty pleased.

{three} san francisco.  i’m going to san francisco next month to celebrate my sister’s birthday and i can’t wait.  i’ve never been there before, so if any of you have suggestions on sites to see, restaurants to try and even favorite hotels, please let me know.

miscellany monday

happy monday everyone – i’ve added my random ramblings to carissa’s miscellany monday party!  check out carissa’s blog here and join in on the fun.

{one} fifty shades of grey.  have you heard about the book, fifty shades of grey by e.l. james? i hadn’t heard about it until recently.  i overheard some of my co-workers talking about it at lunch and they referred to it as “mommy porn.”  they all said that the book was really good and very racey.  i was definitely intrigued and i decided to look into this a little further. the book is described by the new york times as an erotic novel by an obscure author.  this book is the first part of a trilogy and it has jumped to the #1 book on the new york times best sellers list.  i just picked up a copy of this book today.  i can’t wait to get started tonight.  i’ll let you know what i think when i’m finished.  have any of you read this book yet? what did you think about it?

{two} travel.  i’m headed to chicago for the first time for the memorial day weekend. i’m visiting one of my dearest friends, m, and one of my sisters is coming along for the festivities.  i’m super excited - we are going to have a blast! have any of you gone to chicago before?  what was your favorite part?

{three} ellen degeneres.  who doesn’t love ellen degeneres? i don’t know about you all, but i think ellen is amazing.  she’s so quirky, funny and truly inspiring.  i really believe that she makes so many people genuinely happy when they see her.  i think that because she seems really sincere about what whatever topic she talks about and that she really cares about all of her fans.  do any of you watch her show? what do you love about her show?

do you have any miscellaneous musings that you would like to share today? if you want to see some other random thoughts, check out the miscellany monday button to the right.

miscellany monday

happy monday everyone – i’ve added my random ramblings to carissa’s miscellany monday party!  check out carissa’s blog here and join in on the fun.

{one} anthro tag sale.  most of you may already know by now that anthropologie is starting their semi-annual tag sale tomorrow.  this morning i received a phone call from my local store inviting me to the store at 9am for the start of the sale.  i wish i could make it into the store, but i won’t be able to miss work.  it’s pretty cool that they are opening up the stores one hour early for anthro members only.  i’m really looking forward to seeing what items get marked down (first and seconds).  what items are you looking forward to seeing get marked down?

{two} race recap.  i ran in couple of 5k races last month and i never posted my recaps.  here are the highlights from those races.  i was very happy with this first race because it was my fastest time ever for a 5k. this race was a primarily a women’s 5k and it was held on saturday, april 7th.  there were 271 total race finishers and 235 female finishers.  i came in 5th in my age group and i placed 31st overall among all the female finishers.  my official chip time was 26:27.  the next race is a corporate run where most of the local companies create teams specifically for this race.   i convinced some of my co-workers to run this year and we had a nice turn out for an evening race.  this race was on thursday, april 12th.  there were 3092 total race finishers and 1707 female finishers.   in this race i placed 247th overall among all the female finishers and my official chip time was 27:57.  i’m pretty happy with that time too.

{three} season finales.  have any of you been surprised by the season finales so far? last night i watched “once upon a time” (shocker) and desperate housewives (kind of a let down).  did any of you watch either of these shows?  what did you think? i loved the ending of “how i met your mother” and “gossip girl” which aired earlier tonight.  i also just got finished watching “smash” and i loved the finale. i can’t wait to see what’s in store next season.   are you looking forward to any season finales out there or did you have a favorite season finale so far?
