Extreme Nail Trends

Earlier this week, I watched Good Morning America while I got for work when a story about extreme nails caught my attention.  I realized that I must have slithered under a rock over the past few months because I’ve been missing out on some of the cutting edge techniques offered throughout nail salons across the country. Some of you may have already heard about these trends, but I wanted to share them with all of you just in case you’ve missed them.

Snakeskin Nails. Creator, Terri Silacci, was inspired to try something new when one of her children brought home a piece of snakeskin from science class.  “One snake’s trash is a toenail’s treasure,” Silacci said of the new technique in a TODAY.com interview.  Silacci brushes on Bio Sculpture Gel, which is a long-lasting colored nail gel, and then hand cuts the snakeskin to fit each client’s nails. She places the custom-cut piece of snakeskin on the nail, and then adheres it by layering on another coat of the gel. This slithering service can cost you anywhere from $150.00 to $300.00 depending on the manicurist.  And if you think that you can run in during your lunch break to get this snakeskin manicure, think again.  The whole process can take up to 2 hours to complete.  The look is pretty stunning, but I personally wouldn’t spend my money on this manicure.

Feather Nails. Another fabulous trend in the manicure chair is the feather manicure, which features feathers from birds like guinea fowl and pheasants.  This nail style adds some texture to the nail for a dramatic look.  The exotic patterns and colors in each feather really stand out on any nail color. You can achieve this trend at home by painting your nails like normal and placing a feather on top with a pair of tweezers.  Trim any excess feather that passes the nail and apply a clear topcoat polish to secure the feather.  This is an easy DIY trend that I may try over the holiday break.  I’ll let you all know if I decide to do it.  Also, check out a great picture of the final results and Jennifer's step-by-step DIY over at Fab Fatale.

Missoni Nails.  This last trend was inspired by the high-end Italian clothing line that made zig-zags an art form.  The Missoni design became a household name through the recent collection at Target.  The Missoni nail design allows women to select two or three nail colors and then the manicurist creates a one-of-a-kind look.

What do you think about these trends? Do you think that you would ever apply snakeskin or feathers to your nails?

Fall Color Trail

I know that posting pictures of fall trees may be a little late for some northerners, but for some of us in the south fall is just getting started.  Earlier this month I went to Alabama with my BF to attend a wedding.  I was looking forward to going to Alabama because I was hopeful that I was going to see some beautiful fall trees.  And Alabama did not disappoint.  I wanted to share some of my pictures the fall foliage so here they are.

I also wanted to share a picture of the bride’s dress.  I thought that the lower part of the wedding dress was just stunning and the bride’s necklace was a perfect touch.

Grateful

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!  I’m getting ready to make my 3 hour drive to my aunt’s house for Thanksgiving dinner.  I’m looking forward to seeing all of my aunts, uncles and cousins because we have so much fun when we’re together.  My family is full of talented singers and musicians, so there is always lots of singing and dancing going on before and after dinner.  We also play at least one game after dinner like Deal or No Deal, Trivia Pursuit or Pictionary. I have so much to be thankful for this year and I am grateful that I get to celebrate this day with my family.  What are you grateful for this Thanksgiving?

My New Laptop

I'm back everyone and I have a new computer.  Ever since my Dell computer died last Sunday, I was pretty sure that I was going to get a new computer.  In the last year, my Dell has crashed on me several times.  I have lost so many pictures and documents that I can't even count them all.  Needless to say, I'm beyond annoyed and frustrated.  The people at Dell tried to work on reinstalling Windows on my computer, but the hard drive was compromised.  My only option was to buy a new hard drive or get a new computer.  I thought about the price of buying a new hard drive versus a new computer, but my computer's history of crashes left me pretty certain with my decision.  So, I opted for getting a new computer.  I went to Best Buy last night to price a handful of computers.  I played with several laptops, but I kept making my way back to the Apple section.  I have always wanted to get an Apple laptop, but it didn't make sense to get one as long as my Dell was working.  After talking to the Apple representative, I bit the bullet and bought a MacBook Pro.  I'm really loving it.  I felt like a little girl at Christmas playing with all my new toys.  I'm still trying to figure everything out and learn more about my laptop.  I plan to get back to posting very soon.  I just wanted to give you all an update.  Do any of you have an Apple computer?  Let me know what is your favorite feature.

So Frustrated!

I'm super frustrated today. My computer crashed late Sunday night as I was getting ready to post last Friday's Fresh Picks to Follow. I was in the process of trying to repair the software but my computer is apparently beyond repair. This is the third time this has happened to me while I've had this blog. It stinks because I lose some of my draft posts and tons of pictures. So, I have decided that I'll have to get a new computer ASAP. I will keep you all updated.
