OOTD: Without a Trace

Hello everyone…I hope that you all had a wonderful weekend.  I had a super busy weekend and a great start to the week.  Earlier today, I had to travel to Daytona Beach for a staff meeting.  I love traveling out of town for work because I get to explore another city and I get to wear business casual clothes.  I’ve previously mentioned that my job is pretty conservative and I wear mostly suits to work.  So, out of town trips are considered a real treat.  I’ve been to Daytona many times before, especially for spring break trips with my friends.  So, I didn’t do much exploring this time.  I just enjoyed the sun and the beach during the breaks.  Have you ever been to Daytona Beach?  What was your favorite part of your trip to Daytona?

Are you ladies wondering if Anthropologie is going to have another markdown tomorrow?  Is there anything that you are hoping to still pick up?  If they do have more markdowns, I may have to sit this one out.  I’ve been going a little crazy lately with my spending!

Race Recap: Run for Pies - 5k

Two weeks ago I ran for a pie in the Run for the Pies 5k.   I decided to enter in this race because of the long history of the race and the chance to win several prizes.  The race has been in existence for about 33 years and is well-known for the 200 free pies given out at the finish line.  The men won a pie if they ran the 5k race in under 20:00 minutes and the women won a pie if they ran the race in under 24:00 minutes.   Sadly, I didn’t qualify for the free pie…I’m not that fast yet.  I don’t know if I ever will be that fast, but I’m sure going to try.

I arrived at the race location about 20 minutes early to see the elite runners compete the Nike 5k Championship.  These runners were invited to compete in this championship race based on previous race times.  The runners received Nike running sneakers as their prize in this special race.  The men had to run under 16:15 and the women had to run under 19:00 to qualify for the free shoes.  It was pretty amazing to watch these runners really move their stuff.  They really made it look it effortless.   The first male finished the race in 15:07 and the first woman finished in 16:45.  Way to go!

After the championship race, the race opened up to everyone else to qualify for the free pie.   Although the race didn’t start until 8:00pm, it was probably over 90 degrees when the race started.  The course was not what I expected for this race.  It was very uneven with a couple of small hills and the streets were covered with pot holes through out downtown.  There were 1429 total race finishers - 737 females and 692 males.  Despite the heat, I managed to finish the race in 29:02.  I was pretty pleased with that time considering that I stopped to walk for a little bit.  I just couldn’t catch my breath.

This was my first time running in this race and I would definitely sign up for it again.  There was a big post race celebration after the race where the awards were handed out and the some other giveaways.  There was even a pie eating contest, just in case you didn’t win a pie in the race.

The Farmer’s Market

I love going to the farmer’s market on Saturday mornings and picking up fresh produce and flowers.   Do you guys wake up extra early to buy some goodies?  I used to go every weekend when I lived in Virginia because the market was only 3 blocks away from my apartment.  I loved all of the fresh organic fruits and vegetables and all of the tasty samples that were given out.

I don’t know if you have seen these yet, but Anthropologie has a few kitchen items that are perfect displays for your farmer’s market treats.   There is a Farmer’s Market Basket that comes in a Large Square for $20.00 and a Small Square for $14.00.  There is also a Farmer’s Market Oval Basket for $28.00.   And last but not least, my favorite item is Farmer's Egg Crate.  The egg crate sells for $14.00 and comes in sky blue and white.   All of these items were cast in stoneware from real containers.  I love all of these pieces because they also serve double duty.  They could be used in the kitchen and in the bedroom/closet.  I’ve seen several fashion bloggers use the egg crate as a jewelry holder for smaller items like earrings and necklaces.  It’s such a great idea.  Do you plan on getting any of these Farmer’s Market containers?

Fitting Room Reviews: Signs of Summer (Part II)

Here is Part II of my fitting room reviews.  I tried on a few some random pieces in addition to the many dresses that I posted in Part I.  What do you ladies have your eye on this summer?  Let me know!

Anthropologie – The Gathering Tank…$48.00
I love, love, love this top!  This is another great t-shirt from Anthro.  I definitely plan on buying a few colors in this top through out the summer.  I tried this Deletta shirt on in a small (S) and it was TTS.  The fabric was just enough weight for the summer.   The colors are vibrant, the fit is flattering, the pleating is fantastic and the quality is excellent.  I just noticed that Anthro added the turquoise color.  This color is definitely coming home with me soon – I think that this color will sell out quickly.

Anthropologie – After Plaited Tank…$48.00
Since I live in Florida, I naturally have a ton of tank tops, but I have nothing quite like this one.  This tank top is so unique and comfortable.  I tried this on in a small (S) and I fell in love with the woven details on the back.  This tank only comes in a few colors.  It comes in the basics – white, grey and black and there’s a yellow striped tank.    I really hope that this one comes out in a few more colors for the summer.

Anthropologie – Nouveau Rose Skirt …$49.95 (was $98.00)
I bought this skirt in a medium (M) and I think it’s pretty true to size.   Some of the online reviewers mention that the skirt is hard to get around the hips and I agree.  I just decided to get the medium and it worked our fine for me.  The floral bloom pattern on this skirt is lovely and the colors are actually navy and cream.   This fabric is polyester with a polyester liner.  This skirt is a pull on skirt that can be dressed up and down.  It’s a great skirt for the summer and fall.

Anthropologie – Joe's Flare Trousers…$141.00
I wasn’t really looking for jeans, but I had to try these on when I saw them – they were exquisite.  The fabric on these jeans is very lightweight and feels like chambray.  These jeans are perfect for the summer.  I’m not sure if these jeans are true to size.  These jeans appear to look like a wide leg jean so you may be able to go down a size.  I’m curvy on the bottom and the size 29 worked perfectly for me.  I tried it on with this white top, but I can’t find the top on the website.  Do any of you know the name of it?

Race Recap: Memorial Day 5k

I ran in a Memorial Day 5k on Monday, May 30, 2011 at 8:00am.  I woke up around 6:30am to eat breakfast, hydrate with some water and stretch with plenty of time to spare before the race.  There were 1019 total race finishers and 533 female finishers.   My official chip time was 29:24.  I was a little disappointed about my stats since I wanted my time to decrease from the previous race.  However, I have learned that my time may decrease after some more races and practice runs.  I have to learn to be patient and not force it right away.

This race was fairly large considering it was in a smaller nearby town.  There was a local running group that hosted and dominated this race.  This race was pretty easy.  Most of the course was flat, except for a small hill in the last mile.  There were plenty of water stations and community support throughout the court.  Unfortunately, there were no race clocks on the course to help me gauge my time.  I definitely need to buy a stop watch to help me along in my races.  I’m hoping that having a watch may help me speed up my pace and eventually decrease my time.  Well, there is always something that happens in my races that I think affects how well I do.  And this race was no different.  During the last ¾ of a mile, my iPod just stalled and would not reboot.  Has this ever happened to you?  I have grown so accustomed to listening to music and zoning out while I run, that I was distracted by everything around me.   I’m thinking about getting one of those iPod shuffles just for running.  Do any of you have one of these?  Let me know how you like it.

OOTD: Doubly Dapper Dress

I went to a bridal shower yesterday at Carrabba’s Italian Grill in my Doubly Dapper Dress.  This was the first time that I wore it since I bought it and I’m so happy that I found it.   It was a little shorter than I remembered but it worked well for the event.  The bridal shower at Carrabba’s was very nicely done and of course the food was amazing.   The restaurant opened early for the shower only at 11:30am and we were there until 2:00pm.  I didn’t know that they did anything like that.  There was a pre-fixed menu and the bridesmaids brought their own cake.  Unfortunately, I don’t have any pictures, but it was a beautiful event.

Fresh Picks to Follow: We Wear Short Shorts

I didn’t get to post this yesterday, but here is my Friday Fresh Picks to Follow for the week.   You don’t know this about me, but I’m extremely self conscious about my legs, specifically my thighs.  When I was a freshman in high school I received the nickname “thunder thighs” by some mean older teenagers in the school and it stuck with me for many years.   I hardly ever wore shorts because I started to believe that my thighs were just too huge.  As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized that I should accept my body the way it is and embrace every inch of my body.  It took some time for me to accept this fact, but several years ago I finally got it.  I started wearing shorts more than I ever had before.  I don’t own too many shorts in my wardrobe right now, but I plan to buy some more this summer.  And, I don’t have any short shorts either, but if I were to buy some I’ve included them in my list below.  Here are my top 10 picks for this Friday’s Fresh Picks to Follow.   Which one is your favorite pair of shorts? Let me know what you think.  Enjoy!

1. Banana Republic – Seersucker Short…$49.50

2. Bebe – Lilia Linen Safari Short…$47.00

3. White House Black Market – Gingham Short…$68.00

4. Anthropologie – Bespeckled Poppy Shorts…$88.00

5. Anthropologie – Ship Shape Shorts…$68.00

6. Ann Taylor Loft – Bi-Color Blooms Shorts…$44 50

7. J. Crew – Ikat Walkway Short…$98.00

8. Gap – Paper Bag Waist Shorts…$39.95

9.  Anthropologie – Dotty Shorts…$88.00

10.  J. Crew – Plaid Oxford Short…$59.50

Fitting Room Reviews: Signs of Summer (Part I)

I stopped by Anthropologie last Friday to check out more of the tag sale, but then I realized that I haven’t done a fitting room review in some time.   Here are a few of my fitting room reviews on mostly full price items.  What do you ladies have your eye on this summer?  Let me know!

Anthropologie – Horkelia Shift …$178.00
When I first saw this dress, I knew I had to have it.  The color, the lace and the style of the dress were the perfect combination.  However, I was slightly disappointed when I tried it on.  I initially tried on a size (6) because of the straight cut of the dress.  I thought that I would have an issue with my hips, but I didn’t.  I then tried on the size (4) (pictured above) and it fit about the same.  The dress is baggy around the waist and was not very flattering.  I wish it were…I really loved this dress.  I thought about adding a belt to the dress to add some shape to it.  I don’t know…what do you think?

Anthropologie – Butterfly Net Dress…$158.00
When I first saw this dress in the store I instantly thought of my sister because of how much she loves butterflies.  Sis…this dress is definitely the one for you.  I tried this dress on in a size (4) and it fit okay except around my hips and thighs.  This vibrant blue cotton dress made by Nathalie Lete has a pencil skirt bottom that was a little snug on me.  The top of the dress could be worn strapless or with the detachable spaghetti straps.  This dress has beautiful yellow, pink, orange and green butterflies that demands attention.  I love the look of this dress, but unfortunately this one is a pass for me.

Anthropologie – Land Of Springs Dress…$59.95 (was $118.00)
I really loved the look of this dress, but I kind of wish it came in a solid color instead of stripes.  I love the fact that the fabric was a little heavier on top and on the bottom.  I also loved the cowl neck draping around my neck and the thick knots on my shoulders.  However, I felt that the horizontal stripes highlighted my hips a little too much.  I tried this on in a small (S) and it's TTS.

Anthropologie – Nautical Dreaming Chemise…$88.00
This chemise is in the lounge section, but I think this one could be worn as a causal dress.  I tried a small (S) in the raspberry color and fell in love.  This dress is extremely soft and lightweight with a flattering A-line bottom.  I paired it with the Line-Upon-Line Cardi ($148.00) for a complete look.

Anthropologie – Dynamic Zigs Dress…$158.00
I tried on a small (S) in this Plenty by Tracey Reese jersey knit dress.  I didn’t notice this dress online but the in-store mannequin caught my attention.  The store displayed the dress with the Pulling It Together Sweater in the ivory color and it looked amazing.  I was worried that the dress was going to be too clingy, but it wasn’t.  The fit was true to size and the length was perfect for my height.  The dress is very flattering and gathering around the waist was just the right touch.  This dress also comes in a blue motif.

Anthropologie – Cuernavaca Maxi…$158.00
This is another dress that I didn’t notice online, but the in-store mannequin caught my eye.   I tried it on in a size (4) and it fit perfectly on the top of the dress.  The top part of the dress is made of a jersey knit material that was comfortable and soft.  The two tone coloring of the dress is beautiful too.  The bottom half of the dress has a sunny and bright yellow design on a silk skirt.  The skirt length, however, was a little awkward.  It stopped a little bit above my ankle, close to my shins.  It also has slits on both sides of the skirt and I wasn’t a big fan of that.  I paired it with the Line-Upon-Line Cardi ($148.00) for a complete look.  I think that adding a belt to the dress could add a little more shape to the dress.

OOTD: Moon Leaves

I found this gorgeous Moon Leaves Necklace a few weeks ago in Anthro for only $20.00.  I never noticed it before, so I was super happy to find it.  I paired this beautiful find with a Gap T-Shirt that I got for only $6.00.  I love discovering bargains when I’m shopping.  Btw…Gap is having a pretty great sale right now in their stores.   I decided to go back to Anthro today, but I walked out empty handed.  It’s just as well because I had no business going back to the store.  Have you been back to the store for round 3 of the tag sale?  Is there anything that you are hoping to still pick up?

June Wish List – Top 3

Here are my top 3 items from Anthropologie for the month of June.  I love that the name of one of my favorite dresses is called Lila Frock.   When I was younger, my mother and my aunts always referred to dresses as frocks.  As a child, I just I didn’t understand it.  I never heard any of my friends ever refer to a dress as a frock nor did I do it.  It's almost similar to the term ‘pocketbook’ being used instead of purse.  I also grew up hearing pocketbooks as well so much that I sometimes say pocketbooks every now and then.  I haven’t seen the Lila Frock in person yet, but I plan to try it on as soon as possible.  My next favorite top is the Leaf Filigree Tank…I really love the coral color.  The neckline is also exquisite and embroidered cut out leaves really adds a feminine touch.  And last but not least is the Nautical Dreaming Chemise; I tried it on the other day and fell in love.  The chemise is a light-weight, jersey knit dress with a slight A-line bottom.  This chemise is perfect because it could be worn as loungewear and it could be dressed up with a lovely belt, like the Junctions Belt.  This one is definitely coming home with me this month.  What are your must have items this month?  Let me know!

Don’t forget that Anthropologie is offering complimentary standard shipping for Anthro members only.  To take advantage of this offer, you have to link your Anthro ID number to a new or existing Anthropologie.com account.  The free shipping perk applies to all orders over $150.00 and this offer expires on July 15, 2011.  If you are interested in setting up an Anthro ID number, you can set it up here.

Anthropologie Tag Sale (Part 2)

Woohoo…it’s about time!  Anthropologie finally started the additional 25% off of all of their sale clothing in stores and online.  I was convinced that after my last purchase that I wasn’t going to buy anything else for a little while, but the 25% off made this sale a little too hard to resist.  I ended up returning the Kaledolight Cardigan for the Eyes-Have-It Cardigan seen below.  Now -  I’m pretty sure that I’m finished shopping…at least for the time being.  I need a little break.   Here are a few more sale items that I added to my collection.  Did you buy anything today?  I would love to know what you got!
